Google is placing its first data centre in Thailand in a WHA industrial zone in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), in Chonburi province, where Pattaya is located. A separate Google Cloud region is planned in Bangkok.
What is known
- Google's investment in Thailand is about 1 billion dollars.
- The data centre is due to start operating by 2027.
- On 23 September 2026 Thailand's Prime Minister Anutin met Google executives in New York to discuss energy efficiency, water resources and the interests of local communities. Google president Ruth Porat said the company is already investing in Chonburi.
- According to the company's own estimate (a Deloitte study), the investment could add about 4 billion dollars to Thailand's GDP by 2029.
What this means for the region
Technology companies bring specialists and contractors to the region, and demand for rental housing grows, especially in east Pattaya and Nong Prue. This is part of the broader growth of the EEC, together with U-Tapao Airport.
