Sai Kaew military beach near Pattaya: clear water and how to get there
Pattaya Navigator · updated 2026-10-14
Sai Kaew (Hat Sai Kaeo) is a beach on Royal Thai Navy land in Sattahip district, about 30 kilometres south of Pattaya. Everyone in Pattaya knows it as the "military beach": it is shielded from mass development, so it is quieter and cleaner than the city beaches. In our opinion it is better than Phuket's famous Kata and Karon beaches.
What is good here
- clear water and fine, light sand;
- a calm bay sheltered from waves;
- beach cafes and restaurants, sun loungers (usually with a food order) and water activities;
- fewer people than in Pattaya and Jomtien.
How to get there
- It is about 30 kilometres from Pattaya by car or taxi, roughly 40-50 minutes.
- The beach is on a military base, with a document check at the entrance: bring your passport.
- There is no public transport to the beach; you need a car, a motorbike or a taxi.
When to go
The best season is November to February, when the sea is calm. Visiting rules and the entrance fee may change, so it is best to check the conditions before you go.
For those choosing housing
Sattahip is next to the beach; of the Pattaya districts, the closest are Na Jomtien and Bang Saray. These are quiet family areas with villas and low-rise complexes, suited to a calm life. See villas and houses and Nang Ram, another navy beach nearby.
